Salam Yemen / Abdul Hakim Mohammed Saeed / FSAC

Many young people always wonder and come to their minds at the young age about the purpose of their lives and what they will become in the future. They build dreams and imagine themselves in the middle of what they dream. But for our young man and the hero of our story, it was nothing like that, as his dream was amputated at the beginning of the flowers’ life.
Abdul Hakim Mohammed Saeed, 21 years old, was injured on 13/4/2017 in Wadi Sala, where he stepped on a landmine while returning from the university where he was studying as a medical assistant and his right leg was hurt and he had to amputate his leg, and then suffered from frustration and relapsed his life as he himself said at the time. He also added that he tried a lot after that to study and search for work, but all his attempts were wasted as no one accepted to hire a person who is “disabled” as he said.

When Salam Yemen Foundation heard about Abdul Hakim’s situation, it was the initiative to help him with psychological and material support. We helped him open a grocery store – which he named it “the Dahmashi” grocery store – to help him support himself and provide advice and psychological support, which greatly raised his spirit. From that moment, a period of change began in the life of this young man. He then decided to go to university and pursue his dream and is now in his final year of a bachelor’s degree in accounting at Al Ataa University. Abdul Hakim is now a completely different person morally and mentally and also, financially, now that his source of income is now in his hands.
The shop was not only a source of income for him, but also for his family, thanks to which he was able to support his family of six members, including his disabled sister and brother. since the shop is the only glimmer of hope for this family.
During our periodic visit, we noticed a great change in Abdul Hakim from all sides. After asking about his condition and the grocery shop situation, he explained that the grocery is going well, although his annual profit rate does not exceed 10% annually, as it is his only source of income. The grocery store provided him and his family with a decent life free from the worries of subsistence and destitution.
